In cooperation with architect Jeroen Hoorn, Frame Vastgoed, as an investor and developer, has given Slaakhuys the luster it deserves after years of vacancy. The well-known national monument once served as the editorial and printing company of daily newspaper Het Vrije Volk and has been one of Rotterdam's newest hotspots since October 2019. The Slaak Rotterdam is now a luxury boutique hotel with 74 rooms and with restaurant & bar Didot34 it is also an asset for Rotterdam and anyone who is not a hotel guest.

The 'Rotterdam Architectuurprijs' puts the best buildings in the city in the spotlight every year. This independent prize is an initiative of the municipality of Rotterdam, organized by Architectuur Instituut Rotterdam (AIR). The best buildings are awarded the RAP jury prize and the RAP audience prize, which are intended for the winning teams of client, designer and builder.

From the 47 submissions, the jury selected ten buildings - including the Slaakhuys - that are eligible for both prizes. From November 1 up to and including December 1, anyone who cares about the architecture of Rotterdam can vote for the RAP audience prize.
